RAGSdale’s World | Step inside my life…

So we went on this trip…

A man made sun, originally uploaded by soulflysd.

I had been doing some research on NASA and shuttle launches earlier in the year and thought to myself “Why don’t I go see that while I am living here?” My dad and I decided that we would make the 560 mile treck across the south to Cape Canaveral, Florida.

We ran into some problems along the way but ended up getting there 10 minutes before the launch. We followed the directions my dad had got from mapquest and ended up right next to the Astronaut Museum about 2 miles or so from the launch pad.

We pulled up and everyone was parking on the street so we followed suite. Got my cameras and locked up my car. Found a spot to set up and started looking to the right and listening to the PA system that was giving us updates. At 90 seconds to launch I started to freak out cause I was afraid of missing it - then all of a sudden i could hear the countdown from 19 seconds. Once the engines ignited the sky lit up like an explosion or atomic bomb was going off.

Even from 2 miles away you could feel the static electricity in the air.. it only took a few seconds for the shuttle to clear the tree’s and start rocketing away. We could feel and hear the sonic booms that are trademark sounds of a shuttle launch - this was definitely the aspect that made me realize it was all real and happening in front of my eyes. I tried to get as many pictures as I could and think this one has got to be the best one. I took a few pictures on my 35mm camera and will look into getting digital copies of them once I see if they turned out.

I can honestly say that this was hands down the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I got to watch a modern engineering marvel blast off of the Earth and carry 7 people to space. I would strongly suggest that everyone take the opportunity to see this once in their life.

Godspeed on your work Endeavor crew of STS-126, thank you for putting on one hell of a good show!

November… wow

I find myself in awe of the fact that it is already November. This year seems to have gone by with a quickness that I cant explain. This fact being emphasized by the fact that I was absoultely miserable when the year started (Its seems to be normal for me to have time slow to a crawl when im miserable - but doesnt everyone do that?) and was living in a whole new city.

10 months later… wow. Time has gone by quickly. Life is pretty much the same anymore. Work is non existant so my time mainly consists of school (and more specifically - java). One thing that has changed is that I am not sure if I will stay with this major. I have come to find that the school requires you to take an entry level class and then an advanced class in java. Now if I was a freshman and still very pumped up to be in college and taking classes I get to choose - maybe I would do this. This though is a hard choice for me as I have taken 3 classes in programming and I have only found in all of them that I do not like to program. Software development is not something I want to do in industry, I have a very shaky understanding of it and think I understand the methodology and mindset it requires to plan for, but I do not like to actually do it.

This brings me to thinking about my options. The state of Alabama will pay my tuition and for my textbooks for 8 years so I can go as far in the education system as I would like in the state of Alabama. I have already decided to look into a career position upon my return to California as to get applicable experience for my degree. After a few years i am going to come back to Alabama and finish up this second degree. If I am going to do that though, I want to be happy and programming is not it. I have given a bit of thought to it and think I will probably look into taking the Graphic Design BA program they offer. Something that will be a bit of a change from all the business and computer classes I have taken over the last 6 years.

The rest of the year is going to be busy for me - got lots of stuff finishing up wtih school, wedding in Las Vegas in early December, road trip through florida in the middle of December, then Christmas and New Years. The lastly my road trip back to California..

At this pace it will be 2009 before I know it

Sideways falling

The seasons are changing

School is going well… I have had tests in all my classes so far. I have managed to keep my worst grade to a high d (on my first java quiz) and have manged to keep a B in each class. It has been a long time since I had grades like this and felt confident in improving on them. Just need to maintain this wave of attention to detail and focus till the first week of December then I’m done for the semester and can get ready to move home!

Work on the other hand - is not going so wonderful. Have not been getting more than 16 hours the past 2 weeks. The way this week is look i might make 8 hours. I am utilizing the time to study and work on all the projects I have, but I prefered working 20~ish hours a weekand staying overloaded with school (keeps me focused). I hope this coming week will see a change (but at the way its going, probably wont =()

I have been doing lots of documentary watching and research on different global issues. This combined with watching friends run all over the globe has got me itching to travel again. I am very excited about getting back to California and meeting up with Scott and Jack so we can plan our Western Europe trip next summer. Hoping that if things go well I can extend the trip and travel along the northern Mediterranean and travel to Istanbul, Turkey (the true crossroads of east and west!).

Cabrillo Bridge - San Diego, California

This picture brings back a lot of memories of home. I spent a lot of time walking and driving across this bridge.

Illogical holes..

that is all that can be said about this…

“Equal rights… and JUSTICE in our time… [21 Sep 2008|11:27pm]
WIND IT UP!

EQUAL RIGHTS AND JUSTICE IN OUR TIME…..

So lately that VERY simple line of text has been running rampant through my mind. I am sure that some of you may be asking “why” that particular line is running through my mind…

and to quote another amazing British artistic element, I will use “its elementary Watson” to convey my message…

*personal rant - start NOW*

It has been far to long since ANYone has truly encompassed the internet to show the world of the social/political/economical failures of our time. Now many people may ask “well Soulflytribe345(my LiveJournal screename for those JUST tuning in) why dont you show us some examples. Okay - fair enough. Do this - 1, go to http:///www.google.com, 2, type in ANY (and I do mean absolutely ANY) subject you are remotely interested into the search bar and hit the “enter” key on your keyboard…

REGARDLESS!

of what you just input into “google” you will bring up something that will 9 time out of 10 be some kind of “random” piece of information you “NEVER” knew about life, existence, reality, the church, or American society ( a random comparison! - if your doing this from an American locale that is (or looking for information about “American” interests….)

This entire reality that I have “come to deal with” in my time has made me question the education and understanding of what our “American” ancestors have gone through to provide us with.  Those things that we, so in-humanely, disregard in society at this time.

Shit…

maybe I am just another drunken “revolutionary” of the x/y generation spewing off bullshit on the internet…

will WE(?) ever really know?

you tell me…

I “KNOW” that this post has some logical errors but try to work through them (or accept them blindly and argue me!) and see what it is I am trying to say.

I have never been one to say what I am feeling - I state my feelings through vague and wonderous posts that dont really convey how I feel about life. this post, I know, is full of holes and would greatly appreciate to see what you all have to say in response. If you got nothing to say to me - im okay with that, not everyone has a statement/comment to make when asked. I can accept that =)

With out any holding back-

GO! =)

Sunspots in the eyes of giants

Can you believe its already September 20th? I know that I find myself in disbelief every time I have to write down the date. It amazes me the way time flies by when life is going well for you and how time creeps by when your miserable. To master that aspect of my mind would be amazing!

So its been a while but here is “the list” of things Josh needs to do:

  1. Pay off and close 2 different accounts and pay off my credit card
  2. Save money to afford down payment on place in San Diego when I move back
  3. Do well in my classes

So that was my overall goals when I moved to Mobile in December of 2007. Well as of today I can say that I have paid off and closed both accounts, I have also started to pay off my credit card in addition to setting money in savings for a place in SD. Lastly, school - surprisingly (at least to me) at this point I have A’s in all of my classes!

Being able to say all of that makes me extremely happy AND proud of myself for making it this far. I feel like I have turned over a new leaf and am eager to bring this new viewpoint and mindset back to California. I have my eyes set on San Diego for the first half of 09 and San Francisco for the second half of 09. After doing all this crazyness down here in Alabama - maybe, just maybe, I can pull off next year too!

For all my friends that like to read - This is an article on Generation Y (1982 to 2002) and how us oldies of the generation are starting to enter the work place bringing a whole new way of working with IT. Not a long article but thought provoking for sure!

I find myself walking through my parents living room while the DNC is going on. Of course tonight is the big night for Barak, but sadly everything I have seen or heard on trips through has ALL sounded like a political advertisement.

Am I the only person that is tired of being force fed this political bullshit? Whoever gets the white house next is gonna have 4 years of fixing shit that shouldnt have been broke in the first place.

Our system is flawed - the simple fact that I see an advertisement makes me sad. In this day and age of MASS-consumerism the term “advertisement” is now synonymous with spending your hard earned money on some product. I guess our god in the T.V. is telling us that the politicians are a product you can buy.

Am I wrong?

Just found this browsing through flickr and search for pictures of San Francisco. Going to use it at my desktop on my school laptop!

I’m strickly dressin dirty dirty

Happy Saturday to everyone. Was listening to some music this morning and has reminded me of a certain period of my life. The band/song playing was Outkast - Slump. I have always really enjoyed this song for the lyrics. It also reminds me of my brief period of living with my good friend Robin (Link to his blog over in the blog roll, over there - - ->). I always appreciated our chats about life, school, work, women, telvision, music, traveling, politics - pretty much anything. It always seemed that we would be sitting on our respective couches (I still really liked the way you re-did my place!) talking with Bone Thugs N Harmony, Dr. Dre, Pink Floyd, Nirvana (unplugged!), and more often than not - outkast playing in the background. There were many times we would also just play Outkast as we pre-gamed on a Friday or Saturday - often doing shots or shotgunning beers to “Synthesizer” or “SpottieottieDopaliscious”. Lots of good memories go to those songs. Talk about good memories and good times!

So enough with memory lane - time for present day on the LA freeway that is my life. I officially got registered at USA on Thursday and spoke with a counselor. At first they wanted me to take basic algebra and a bunch of other general education classes. Pointed out various classes from Grossmont, Cuyamaca, and SDSU and got myself pretty much on par class wise. Sadly not everything transferred over so I do have a few general ed classes to take in addition to mandatory lower division classes for my major. Speaking of major I have declared to be a compouter sience and information systems major with a degree in information technology. Im sure all my SDSU friends are curious about this - I am still finishing up my degree from there, just thinking of getting this in addition so I have a business degree AND a computer science degree =).

My classes this semster are:

CIS 120 - Programming Concepts I (JAVA Programming)

BUS 255 - Applied Business Statistics II

ARH 103 - Art History I

CA 275 - Small Group Discussion

Im stoked because my overall GPA actually went up with transferring here. I have a 2.8 right now at USA. I am hoping to get A’s in all my classes this fall and try to get that up to a 3.0! Wouldnt hurt =) My schedule is kind of crazy I have to say. I have class Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. Then I have a class Saturday morning and another on Sunday night! I couldnt  believe they actually offered a sunday class. Im looking forward to keeping myself very busy with this and working too.

So in closing - wanted to throw out a musical recommendation to you all. Tim Lambias of As I Lay Dying fame started a side project in honor of the great govenator of California. The name of the band is Austrian Death Machine and their first CD is called Total brutal. It is a metal CD but the lyrics are pure comedy, as are the song titles (”Come with me if you want to live”, “You have just been erased”, “If it bleeds, we can kill it!”) Their myspace is here http://www.myspace.com/austriandeathmachine

Dammit!

Metallica November 23rd New Orleans, LA - New Orleans Arena (feat. Down)

Im going to go smoke now = this is just to much to think about =(
